Left Cultures _’Timelines’

Proposals and final art for a new series of works for Left Cultures publication to accompany a text exploring Berthold Brecht’s 1943 poem ‘Das Lied von der Moldau’.

‘…all things change, can change, do not last eternally… It evokes the heart of Brecht’s hopeful but realist stance, encapsulated by Walter Benjamin in his analyses of his friend’s poems, which he characterises as ‘dialectics at a standstill’. Brecht nails the stasis that threatens to prevail in our corrupted social relations, while questing for breaks, moments of movement, spots of potential unblockage, transformation. The second verse of the song insists that change is a constant.’ (Esther Leslie)
